Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Teal Drones, a wholly owned subsidiary of Red Cat Holdings, is looking to fill a position for a full-time Senior Mechanical Design Engineer. Teal is a rapidly growing technology company focused on creating worldclass system solutions serving a broad range of applications for design and development of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS drones) for use in defense, public safety, and other government security organizations.  

Expected Start Date: September 2024

Responsibilities
  •  Own and contribute to the design and development of new and existing products and subsystems.
  • Perform analysis on designs including hand calculations, CAD, and FEA.
  • Develop detailed 3D models and designs for drone/UAV components using SOLIDWORKS.
  • Assist in the development and improvement of design processes and standards.
  •  Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to design and manufacturing.
  • Define validation test standards and manage component-level testing and verify overall system performance based on system requirements.
  • Implement Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles, integrating feedback from vendors.
  • Manage mechanical assembly documentation, ensuring compliance with quality control verification specifications for inspection.
  • Develop and maintain necessary manufacturing instructions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Possess 10 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS for 3D design and modeling.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, best practices, and design processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with electromechanical designs in collaboration with other engineering disciplines.
  • Extensive background in part tooling processes, with a strong understanding of material limits and properties.
  • Track record of successfully bringing products to market.
  • Fluency in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and analytical structure analysis methods.

Additional Desired Attributes and Skills:
  • Previous work experience in drone/UAV design engineering roles.
  • Knowledge of materials science and manufacturing processes.
  • Solid understanding of engineering principles, including heat transfer, EMI, and shock and vibration.
  • Hands-on experience with fabrication tools, such as drills, bandsaws, and angle grinders.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a high level of ambiguity.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, as required by the duties and responsibilities.    
  •  Adeptness in moving around the office, manufacturing facilities, and other workspaces.
  • Proficient use of hands and fingers for tasks such as creating 3D CAD models and drawings.
  •  Clear vision for precision work and attention to critical dimensions and quality control callouts.
  • Ability to actively engage in team discussions, presentations, and collaborative problem-solving sessions.
  • Adherence to safety protocols and guidelines in laboratory or manufacturing settings.
